I’ve bought a mirrorless camera and here is what happened
For many years I had been using DSLRs. A while ago all of my photographer friends converted to mirrorless cameras and praised them as they had reinvented photography.
I don’t change habits. I don’t adjust. I detest and finally give up.
The upgrade to mirrorless was evitable after all. I had a problem with my camera, had to buy a new one and then boom.
I got a mirrorless one and I was one of them, a hipster in the photography world.
Here are the results:
An Electronic Viewfinder – just wow!
The electronic viewfinder sees exactly what lands on the sensor. And you are not going to see the back of your screen. You will see the direct projection of the sensor. When you see the exposure before you take the picture and the results will be wonderful.
Mirrorless cameras are small
When you skip the mirror you get a smaller camera. It is now easier for me to carry around my camera. You’ll look like a tourist taking photos with your small camera. If you want to feel more professional and give the audience the photographer look you can buy grips and use bigger lenses. But the thing is it is overheated if you are shooting a video for a long time. You need to cool it down for a while after you intensely use it for a video. But if you are shooting photos you are good. Overheating issues will be solved with new generations, so you may want to waşt for better versions before you buy a mirrorless camera. I do take videos with a DSLR and photos with the mirrorless.
Autofocus has never been super before
With a mirrorless camera you will not miss autofocus. The full frame autofocus will help you to lock the focus on your target. Before that, I had to press buttons to lock the focus on the object or the person I was aiming to shoot, but now, and when I am out of focus EVF directs me to refocus. But EVF drains the battery. One negative thing about a mirrorless camera is that you have to charge more. I recommend getting extra batteries to work continuously because on a shooting day it does not last a day long. But I am sure they will sort this problem out with every next generation.
The Shutter
Mirrorless cameras have a shutter but that is something different. There is no mirror, so there is only one noise and that is the shutter. You can take photos that no one will notice. Like a spy 🙂 The shutter makes a subtle noise because it is automatic.
The Lenses
One thing to mention tough, you may want to change your lenses when you update your camera. Because all the new lens releases are for mirrorless cameras. If you don’t have the funds to buy both a new camera and a lens, you can buy an adaptor to adjust your DSLR lens to your new camera but you’ll have to focus manually.
So , I recommend you buy a mirrorless camera if you are planning to get a new one.
Have a great one
