Types of Photography

Photography could be much more than making an organized collection of your treks or precious memories and should you ever be wondering if you could specialize in a certain way those photos are taken, as in their subjects, their purpose and equipments even, then you have arrived at the right blog post where I will humbly try to explain the compartments of photography in broad strokes to give you a feeling of what each category means and hopefully spark your interest in one – I’d be very happy to hear if you would and please let me know by reaching me out what you’ve done!

Photojournalism

As serious as it sounds, it could easily be the most thrilling form of photography as the eye of the beholder could capture a moment that is times over stronger than the news or the report of the incident itself. Photojournalists take their equipment and arrive at the scene with the hopes of getting a very unexpected occurrence or reflect what is going on as bold as possible keeping in mind that they are there to snap not the pixel-perfect picture, but rather the accurate, objective and maybe the candid one.

Fashion Photography

How do those models in glamorous wear look glamorous? Well other than their attire being glamorous enough, there are fashion photographers that bring the best out of whatever they are carrying back and forth to make it more appealing to the audience or the consumers.  Creativity plays a certain role in this department indeed and from well-lit indoors to bustling streets among the crowd, fashion photographers work in settings with distinct dynamics. They utilize a similar set of skills as portrait photographers and this takes us to our next topic of interest.

Portrait Photography

The most prominent according to some, portrait photography is indeed a quite common field that strives to capture the mood of an individual or a group of people in the most aesthetic way possible. Focused on the face or taking a full body shot, portrait photographers emphasize the emotion that a certain complexion oozes candidly or awe the audience with the dictated poses. Making masterful use of lighting and backdrop, the artist does complete the composition by building a relaxed connection with the client for best results.

Sports Photography

Sports events brim with excitement, awe, thrill and shock even, making them perfect candidates to freeze in time and be an inspiration for most people for decades to come. The live action that is completely out of the photographers’ hands requires not only clicking in the right moment but also using a higher ISO for a faster shutter speed to take the beautiful photo through the longer lenses used from the distance.

Architectural Photography

Architecture is a form of art too so why not art-ception? From deserted dim factories to the arch of a 300 years-old building, both the interiors and exteriors of architectural pieces are excellent choices for photography as the camera absorbs the right kind of light by the help of various gadgets such as tilt-shift lenses, tripods and whatnot. And this is my field, so, I want more people to be interested in taking pics of old buildings!

Ok, not trying to get carried away here as I tried to outline the most prevalent forms of photography out there however such a humble list does not do justice for all types defined. You could easily find yourself browsing through a 50+ items list of photography doing its best to cover it all and keep reading and shooting to hone your skills indeed!

Peace out!
