How to know when to change your camera?

Tips from Anil Uzun

I know, that is a very hard question and periodically one of your favourite camera brands releases a new camera that has the best features, and I am positive that you can be easily convinced that camera is everything you need.

But, you need to be reasonable, you can not buy every new camera that is on market. You need to be wise when you are deciding if you need a new camera or not.

New Professional Camera Ideas

Examine your existing camera. Are you content with the resolution of the sensor? Are the frames per second compatible enough? Think about your shooting style and make a decision, are you an events photographer, do you take portraits? Do you print your photos? Make a decision and upgrade your camera with a 30-megapixel one or the one that has more resolution than your camera. Also, 12 frames per second will upgrade your work if you are shooting performances or events. But if you are shooting portraits, you will be fine with 5 frames per second.

Another thing to look at to decide if your camera needs an upgrade or not is autofocus. With the advanced technology, the photographers can put the autofocus point anywhere. If you prefer to focus manually that is another thing but, when you have focus problems in your shots you need to upgrade your camera because the cost of missing shorts are more expensive than a new camera. If you have enough budget you can prefer a mirrorless one. A mirrorless camera has the ability to track perfectly. If you are shooting an event with your mirrorless camera you can capture the faces and even eyes with autofocus. Let me remind you that autofocus problems may not stem from the camera body. You need to check your lens before you decide if you need a new camera that has a better autofocus or not.

When it comes to camera sensors, dynamic range and or low light performance is very important. You need to know what you need and if your current camera does not perform enough, you need to upgrade. You will have far better photos when you increase dynamic range and low light performance.Full frame cameras are preferable because larger area means cleaner photos even in the ones taken at an ISO higher than say 1600 or 3200.

Dynamic range is also important when you are shooting landscapes. You need to have a camera that has  good quality highlight or shadow recovery. But if you are shooting photos in a limited range in an even lighting, the dynamic range shall not be a concern for you.

The last thing to consider when you are upgrading is the age of your camera. If you have your camera for around a few years, it may be torn. If you do not want to repair it, or you think repairmen will cost you a new camera budget then buy a new one!
